I have a secret to tell you…
I like wearing wigs.
Yep, I do. At one point real hair extensions were a part of my life. Really well made and high quality pieces make it hard to tell if it is a wig or not – like the one in the picture above. Divatress is a online store that offers thousands of wigs and hair care products. Whatever type of wig or hair piece you are looking for you most likely will find the perfect match at Divatress. Whether you purchase real hair extensions or synthetic weave, these are some tips that help make wearing a wig easier and more enjoyable.
Putting on your wig
If you have long hair, divide your hair evenly and pin it close to your scalp. This will help the wig from being awkwardly bumpy in some areas.
Whether you have long hair already or not, it’s a good idea to wear a fishnet or cotton cap under the wig. It will help keep your natural hair from slipping out from under the wig.
There are lots of different types of wigs – real hair verses synthetic, weaves, regular wigs, lace front, half wigs, braids, ponytails. Depending on the wig you purchase the way your put on the wig will differ. YouTube is a great resource for the best way to put on whatever type of wig you decide to use.
Maintain your scalp
If you are a regular wig wearer, you might feel your scalp getting itchy frequently. There are conditioning scalp sprays on the market to help reduce inflammation and itchiness. Also give your scalp time to breath, when you are home place your wig on a wig stand.
Maintain your wig
Sometime scalp can become itchy because of sweating and sometimes because of stray hairs sticking back through the wig. Maintaining your wig is important to remove stray hairs. Be gentle and careful when combing your wig. Be sure to use a brush recommended for the wig you have chosen. If you wear the wig everyday, WikiHow recommends only washing your wig after wearing it 25 times. Read more about washing your wig here.
Hair extensions used to be part of my everyday life. For the longest time, I had wanted to grow my hair out really far down my back. For some reason it wouldn’t happen so the extensions let me see how it would feel and were fun! I’m hoping this post about wearing and maintaining your scalp and wigs has been helpful.
