I’m making a change this year – I’m starting habits.
Have you ever read the book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People? Yea, me neither. But when it was released in 1990 it was a groundbreaking self help book. Just the title alone teaches me that we all have habits. Either they benefit ourselves and others or they don’t.
I have a lot of habits that are not healthy. That’s about to change.
It won’t be easy. I like gorging on junk food – carb and sugar filled treats. I don’t want to “waste” my time exercising, promoting my book, working on my blog, etc when I can be sitting on the couch binge watching Netflix. It’s so much easier to do that then clean my house, fold laundry, or Swiffer the floor… again and again and again.
Whew. These bad habits are like fungus on the week old food in my fridge. Persistent, always ready to grow into more bad fungus, and stinky.
It’s time for a change!
MY GOALS IN THE NEW YEAR
#1. LOSE WEIGHT. I’m 5′-3″ and just weighted myself. I’m at a decent 145lbs. On the BMI(Body Mass Index) calculator at at 25.7 which is overweight. My goal weight to stay at it 125 lbs which is the midrange for the normal weight for my height.
#2. READ THE BIBLE DAILY. It helps me to have quiet time with God. That seems like a silly statement right? I mean I believe that the God of the Bible created the Universe, sent His Son Jesus to die for my sins, and raise Him from the dead. Why wouldn’t I want to spend time with the God of the Universe!
#3. DISTRIBUTE MY BOOK MORE. Did you know that I wrote a book a year or so ago? Simple Steps For Living Life: Out On Your Own. It’s more like a workbook including lists, worksheets, and guides with very basic information about how to make it on your own. Great for kids that are about to graduate. My dream is to get one in the hands of every kid that is about to age out of foster care each year which is over 20,000 kids a year! I’m not sure how to get the word out about it except to call school counselors and offer them a free PDF. Any ideas? I’d appreciate any advice!
#4. WRITE ANOTHER BOOK. I’d like to create another workbook that will be called Simple Steps For Living Life: Prepping for Surgery. I’ve written some chapters already and have them as blog posts which include check lists and things to consider when surgery is on the horizon.
#5. MAKE $2000/MONTH WITH MY ONLINE BUSINESS. Lately, I’ve been averaging around $200 per month with this blog through promoted posts and twitter parties. I’m hoping to increase that amount to justify me staying home and to help pay off debt. A plan is needed to do this though and I plan on working on it this week!
#6. PAINT AT LEAST 10 “MASTERPIECES” THAT COULD BE PRINTED FOR INTERIOR DESIGN COMPANIES. What a dream come true this could be! I have 1 completed, 2 almost completed and another started. It’s not easy being an artist but with the nudging of my boss I’ve started painting again. I forgot what a freedom I found in painting! I LOVE IT! A prominent architect here in Shreveport purchased my first painting in 10 years (“Stress Fracture”) for $550. yippeee!!! I know that a lot of artist charge even more but starting out, not too shabby! 🙂 See more art updates on my instagram feed.
#7. CONTINUE TO TRY TO TEACH MY KIDS COOL STUFF. I want to instill the fact that I believe that my kids can do anything they set their minds to. I want to teach them to reach for the stars and enjoy the process in striving for that goal as much as they enjoy reaching the goal. I want to teach them compassion, kindness, and love. I want them to learn things that can help them through life.
#8. DOUBLE MY TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS. This was an idea I had for 2017 but never wrote down. Now I’ll be going back to this post through out 2018 and updating. As of today Twitter Followers @SimpleSteps4LL – 24,497 and Instagram Followers @SimpleStepsForLivingLife – 2505
I have several other ideas and goals but my distraction level is like a ping pong ball in a shaking 2 foot cube.
These goals in the new year are pretty much useless if they aren’t written down. Also goals require a plan to be successful. In the next post, I’ll write about planning out goals in the new year (or in general). As for now, these are my big 8 plans for 2018.
