Placemats – they’re not just for the table any more!
I was walking through Wally World the other day and this little beauty was in a display rack in the kitchen area..
“Live a little. Love a lot.”
I liked the motto so much and the price at just $2 was perfect! But what could I do with such a thing. And why would I need to bring one more thing into my tiny 1350 square foot home?! Alas, the temptation was too great for this gal and it followed me home like a lost decorative puppy.
An idea was percolating in my noggin’ so my next trip was to the dollar store for just the right frame… in this case an 11×14 would do the trick. If I was willing to spend more than 3 dollars on my art project, I could have made a much larger statement piece by purchasing a 16×20 frame withe a mat cut to 11×14. In my case though, $3 was just the right amount to spent without feeling silly about bringing home something I didn’t need.
First I took off that pesky sticker off the front. Unfortunately, it did take some of the finish off the exquisite piece of art but not enough to be able to see it without really looking for it
Then I took the picture out of the frame that was there(which was pretty cool in itself)…
I flipped over my placemat and centered the picture from the frame on it. Traced around it and cut off the excess placemat…
And VIOLA! My little masterpiece is finished for a mere $3!
Placemats could be used anywhere in the home for art. How about decorating a boy’s room with Wolverine? This one is around $6 on Amazon with shipping…
