Our living room is home to “The Dragon Chair“…
It was a floor model on discount at World Market a couple years ago. Ooo how I love that store! Unfortunately, Dragon Chair was not prepared to fight off the antics of my kiddos with their cheetos hands and fruit juice drinks being spilled while watching favorite cartoons.
So The Dragon Chair has pretty much breathed it’s last fire-breathing breath and will be recovered soon using this beautiful fabric…
I’ve carried this fabric around for about 4 years now trying to decide how to use it. With the demise of the mid-evil covered chair, my mom gave me the great idea to use my coveted fabric for the slip cover. Thanks Mom for another great decorating idea!
Now the only dilemma is what fabric to use for recovering my throw pillows. Right now, the color scheme is black, orange, and white with sometimes yellow. The new main room colors will be yellow, black, and silver/grey with sometimes red because of the red conga drums in one corner for my husband’s music and the red artwork hanging above it.
I’m wondering if you know what the tip is yet for choosing the fabric for throw pillows?
If you guessed, coordinating colors, YOU WIN!
Ok, really I don’t have any prizes today except the fact that you’ll have a cohesive living room which should be more relaxing to come home too. Wait, that is a great prize to win though right? 🙂
I’m not saying to not get a little edgy and thrown in a pillow with a pop of color or graphic that is out of the color scheme but keeping this at a minimum will make the room look more put together.
Last night, I got lost online looking for the perfect fabric for my pillows. One of my favorite places to check out is fabric.com. I literally spent about 2 hours looking around and dreaming of all the different ways I could use different fabrics that popped up on the screen. There are over 500,000 yards of fabric stocked at their warehouse!
I finally knuckled down and made myself just try to find the fabric for the pillows and searched by Home Decor Fabric and then selected the color families for this project. With my search I came up with these top three picks so far…
Sew pretty right?! (See what I did there Heh heh!)
I’m also looking for a little bit of red to accent the pillows with since there is a little red in the room. I’m thinking a button to make one of the pillows tufted or maybe some trim around one. These can be found under Notions&Patterns and then chooseButtons, Trim&Ribbon, or whatever you are looking to find. I’m liking how subtle these buttons would be but would help tie in the part of the room that is my husband’s music area…

Right now, we have 5 throw pillows in our living room. Two are on the loveseat, one on a recliner, and one on each side chair(which includes the dragon chair) I’m not sure how many of each fabric I’ll use but love the options above! I think it could work with all three and some red trim or buttons and maybe even throw in a small graphic pillow with the red accent or maybe have a yellow pillow with a giant red starfish applique.
Whichever fabrics you choose or premade throw pillow you choose, the best tip to find a perfect one for your space is to always remember to keep it in your color pallet! If your room’s three main colors plus accent are yellow, black, grey and red, then don’t put a pink and purple polka dotted fabric in with the mix. The patterns can be all sorts of things in my opinion but when the colors are consistent, fabrics magically go together.
