Do you love holidays? Me too!!! I love decorating for them, the festivities, the meaning behind the holidays, and… I love the after holiday clearance sales!
Remember how I re-purposed Christmas clearance items to decorate the mantel for Valentine’s Day? Well, this past weekend we were running errands and stopped by Hobby Lobby(one of my favorite stores!). Lo and behold, the Easter Decorations were marked down 90%.
YES… 90% OFF! Yippeeeee!
So we stopped by to see what was left of the fun… there were fuzzy chicks like these packs I picked up for only 50cents each…
My kids can play with these for days on end! There was also a row of hot pink unicorn baskets that were ridiculous but my daughter saw these and begged for one. These were like $16.99 original price so I’ll be going back to see if they have any left and put it in her birthday present stash.
There were also a ton of baskets left like these perfectly hot pink ones…
This was super handy because I’ve been working on redoing the upstairs bedroom/closet and needed a way to pretty up and organize the shelves. The inspiration for the room design is from a ribbon with an Eiffel Tower design of black, white, and hot pink. So I picked up 6 of these hot pink baskets there and happened to get 3 smaller ones from Dollar General. The chicks and baskets cost about $9.
Here’s is what the messy shelving unit looked like before… I already had put the flowery contact paper on the back of the shelf when I did the makeover on them.
At first I tried putting the baskets on the shelves and was just going to label them. Unfortunately, the handles were too tall to fit in each shelf so can you guess what happened next. I took off the handles. They were stuck on with hot glue kind of adhesive on the basket so I could just pull them out.
I was pretty sure the baskets would be ruined if I tried yanking the handles out so instead I got out some snippers…
The handles were tougher than I had anticipated but I eventually was able to snip these off with more heavy duty pliers. Then I lightly sanded the snipped edges and painted them to make it less obvious…
Now was the time to make the basket labels…. I used PicMonkey (That’s my affiliate link visit my disclosure page for more info) to make my sweet Oooh pareeee basket labels like this one. Then after printing, I laminated them and made a hole for the ribbon with a hole punch.
The last step for any organization project… declutter! All the mess was taken off the shelves and separated with like items to assigned baskets. Next I added the labels per basket and arranged them on the shelves…. Tah dah!
I love how these shelves turned out! These repurposed baskets are just the perfect fit in size, color, and cost for this low cost makeover. Do you repurpose clearanced holiday decorations? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂
