None of us enjoy being sick and when we have an illness it can be incredibly hard for us to function normally and enjoy our regular routine. This can ruin our day, week, or even quite some time in our lives. When it comes to treating an illness such as a common cold or a stomach bug, our first instinct is to try and head for the doctors but you might also try these natural remedies for common illnesses to help.
Usually when fighting off a cold the best thing to do is rest, stay at home and try out some natural remedies. And speaking of these natural remedies, today we are going to take a look at a few of them.
When our body is being invaded with pathogens it is important for us to be able to fight them off and flush them out. We need water in our bodies to help keep our organs hydrated and also to flush our toxins, and this is why water is key when you are sick. Drink as much water as you can or try IV Therapy and this will help to flush out all of the pathogens from your body and help you to recover much quicker.
Gargle with salt water
The idea of gargling with salt water might be a little disgusting but it is something which you should definitely consider if you have a sore throat and block sinuses. Salt water will act as a natural cleaning fluid for the mouth and it will help to rinse away the bacteria which is attacking your body so that you can spit it out. It can be a great thing to do first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Honey and lemon
Honey and lemon is a winning combination and the flavour is great for sweets, but this combination is also perfect for the throat. If you ever have a store throat the best thing you can do is coat it, and by mixing some honey and lemon and drinking it, you’ll provide a protective coating on the throat which will soothe the pain. You can also mix honey and lemon with warm water and take this is a drink.
Take a Ginger Shot
Ginger is an anti inflammatory and it is also a spice which can awaken the body and provide us with a lot of energy. When we are feeling ill therefore, a ginger shot can be just the ticket to help reduce swelling in the throat and make the body feel like it’s normal self once more. If you struggle with the taste of ginger you can hold your nose as you take it and this will dampen the spice.
Essential oils are called essential for the reason. There are many different types and uses for oils and they can all help us when we are feeling under the weather. For example you can use lavender oil to help your sleep; you can use tea tree oil clear the sinuses; and even place some olbas oil on a small tissue in front of a humidifier to help clear your body and make you feel better.
These are just a few of the different natural remedies for common illnesses. I prefer natural remedies but do like to check with a doctor if I am worried about my symptoms. Check out this long list of more natural remedies ideas here.
