”Overcoming The Love-Hate Relationship With Your Appearance” is a collaborative post. Please see the disclosure page for more information. Always seek advice from a medical professional.
It’s hard to constantly feel confident about the way you look. For many of us, it’s hard to ever feel confident about the way we look. After all, you’re always going to pick out the tiniest flaws in your appearance. You might even find flaws that aren’t really there. It’s instinctive to berate yourself, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy to do so. Every human is guilty of doing it at some point, but you can start to undo the damage by changing your perspective.
Let’s talk about how you can start overcoming the love-hate relationship with your appearance. Gradually, you can improve your self-perception and start to love yourself.
First realize there is no one on Earth just like you
Did you know that you are one of a kind? Actually you are one of 400 quadrillion likelihoods that you would even be born! (See this article.) Just that by itself is beautiful. Every strand of hair, every freckle, the number of fingers you have or don’t, the size of your bones, your smile, these are all miracles. You are a miracle.
Still worried about your appearance? Well, quit. Quit comparing yourself to others and coveting others by looking at the perfect social media photos, the magazines in the groceries stores, your friends that somehow have time to brush their hair every day(wish I did LOL). I’m not saying to completely let yourself go. Feel good about yourself because you care enough to take care of yourself not because you are trying to please someone else or live up to the worshipping level of appearance that advertising crams down our eyes!
Here’s some tips to take care of yourself and hopefully boost your self-esteem…
Look after your teeth.
This might seem like a strange place to start, but a truly confident smile can transform the appearance of your face. Of course, many people shy away from smiling in photos (or at all) because they feel self-conscious about their teeth. Maybe they’re a little crooked, or maybe they’re not pearly white. If that’s the case for you, then you should make sure you look after your teeth. Brushing and flossing daily will help to keep those gnashers healthy. You could also look into getting braces if you’re self-conscious about the crookedness of your teeth. Or if you have other teeth issues be sure to visit a dentist. If your teeth aren’t healthy, it can lead to even more more health problems in your body. Your health is the most important thing!
Keep your hair healthy.
With the number of hair products on the market, it’s tempting to overwhelm your locks with the numerous dyes, sprays, and other beauty goods out there. But you need to do so in moderation. In fact, it can be much better for your hair to avoid such products altogether. You might want to fix damaged hair with more products, but the best way to look after your locks is to let them breathe and give them a break. Keeping your hair healthy is the best way to improve its appearance.
You should be proud of your hair’s natural appearance. Everyone’s hair is different, but that’s a beautiful thing – you should embrace it. That being said, if you’re self-conscious because you’ve been suffering from hair loss, then you might want to consider looking into a transplant from a reputable location like Silicon Valley Hair Institute. With modern technology, there’s nothing stopping you from having the head of hair you deserve. This could help you to overcome any self-esteem issues and love your hair again.
You can get a long way by accepting that everyone is beautiful. We often have an easier time spotting the beauty in others rather than the beauty in ourselves, but don’t you think it’s the same for those people when they look at you? You need to learn to praise yourself. Appreciate your inner and outer worth. Loving your appearance isn’t about becoming vain; it’s about accepting yourself. Forget media standards of beauty – start to appreciate real beauty. We’re talking about undoctored looks. Forget Photoshop and all of that nonsense. You’re naturally beautiful.
You are one of a kind – every inch of your body and mind. There is not anyone that is 100% just like you. Your beauty is because you are you!
