With the weather officially getting warm around here, I’ve been going through all the kids’ clothes to change over to summer time clothes. I even went through the sock drawers and found several solo socks. Yep, no matches. Living the single life.
I could have thrown these out but thought about making some little sock puppets out of them. That can be fun but has been done around here a couple times over the years. Enter Pinterest.
A ton of ideas for using socks popped up like making a crab, snake, kitten, rabbit, bubble snake, snowmen, and even a chia pet. I’ve pinned a bunch of them on my Crafty Crafty board if you’re looking for a sock project stop on by. Since I didn’t have a lot of time but wanted to make a craft with the kids, I picked the Socktopus idea to try.
This easy peasy craft just required a couple things… socks, ribbon, scissors, and a permanent marker(oops I forgot to put that in the picture!).
Next, stuff the extra socks into the sock that will be the socktopus.
Now the fun part! Tie a whole bunch of ribbons on the sock to keep the other socks inside. There are about 5 pieces of ribbon that I used and double knotted them.
After adding a couple pieces of ribbons, cut the bottom of the sock to make tentacles. I chose to make 8 tentacles since it is an octopus sock, but do whatever looks cute for the sock you are using.
After this step, I added a couple more pieces of ribbon, added a face, and came up with this…
This was a fun craft for my kids and me. It was easy enough for my 4, 5, and 7 year old to help make three more!
