Summer is just around the corner and it is finally time to break out the sun hat and head out to the beach for a weekend stroll. Summertime is always amazing and it is a time of the year when we get to let go and be more playful. It is also important to make sure that you keep yourself safe and healthy in the summer months just as you would throughout the rest of the year. Today we will take a look into how we can stay healthy and fit all summer long.
Always apply suncream
One of the most important things you can carry with you at all times when it comes to the summer time is suncream. It is very important that even when it isn’t too sunny outside, that we use suncream before we head out on a hot day. UV rays are very harmful for the skin and they can be deceiving when the wind is strong or there is some cloud cover. To keep skin clean and make sure you keep a bottle with you in your bag just in case!
Drink plenty of water
During the summer it is easy to become overheated and get dehydrated. From eating lots of salty chips and fish, drinking more alcohol and sweating more… there are a lot of ways that we can end up dehydrated with a headache. It is incredibly important to stay hydrated during the summer time as it can be risky for you if you are in the sun and you can be more vulnerable to sunstroke. Make sure that you bring along water with you wherever you go and ensure that you are able to stay healthy, cool, and happy and healthy in the sun every day.
Cut down on the smoothies
When the weather gets warmer we all often look for ways that we can stay refreshed and also keep ourselves healthy and happy. One of the ways which a lot of us use to try and be a little healthier at lunch time is to grab a smoothie from the store. As amazing as smoothies can be, it is important to remember how much sugar resides in them and be aware not to drink to many of them on a hot day!
Exfoliate
During the summer time there are a lot of changes which happen to our skin and to our body as a whole. One of the things which we do a lot in the summer is sweat and shed out skin. It might sound a little disgusting but it is simply the method our body uses to cool itself down and stay youthful. If you are going to be outside in the sun a lot over the course of the summer it is important for you to exfoliate your skin and make sure it is smooth. Dead skin can build up and cause spots and blackheads otherwise and no one wants that!
Keep moving
We know how hard it can be to motivate yourself to exercise during the summer when the weather is warm and the sun is blaring down on you. However if you want to make sure you can stay lean all summer long and not put on weight from all of your summer parties, you need to keep moving! Most gyms have air conditioning and if you don’t want to pay for the gym, you can head out for hikes, swim in the sea and find other fun ways to stay active outside.
Stay cool
Summer is always a fun time of the year and it is a great chance for us to soak up some rays and enjoy the heat. However when you are out in the hot weather bear in mind that the human body has a limit, and if you spend too long in the heat it can make you feel dizzy and nauseous. This is why it is a great idea to stay wet during a hot and sunny day and if you can, get a paddling pool for the garden to let you cool down after an afternoon of gardening and sunbathing!
Healthy oils
One of the things you might not have known about your body is that it can protect itself against UV rays from the inside. If you want to make sure that you are covered from all angles in the sun, make sure to consume some healthy oils. Olive oil for example contains fatty acids which help to protect your skin cells from UV rays. Consuming a tablespoon with your meals every day can have a positive impact on your body.
Protect your hair
Our hair can be pretty sensitive at the best of times, but during the summer it can be damaged very easily and it is important for us to look after it. Our hair can be damaged by the sun in a number of ways including breakages and discolouration and this can have a knock on effect on us later on. The best thing we can do for our hair in the summer is to avoid using heat as much as we can on our hair, and to use heat protection sprays to aid it’s growth.
Eat healthy by the pool
Summer is on of those times of the year where we all become tempted by every sweet and cold treat in sight. It is no surprise that we all reach for ice creams and donuts on the beach, but these items are full of sugar and fat and they aren’t healthy. Instead of this, try bringing along a fruit salad with you to eat by the pool and enjoy hydrating fruits such as melon. You can still treat yourself now and again, just try not to get too carried away!
Conclusion
Summer is the best time of year for a lot of us and it is important for us all to be able to stay fit and healthy. Stay safe and make sure that you can enjoy the summer to the max this year!
