It’s been way way way too long since I’ve written a Thankful Thursdays post. I’m so thankful today for many things. I’m so blessed in so many ways. For some reason the song Count Your Blessings is stuck in my head all of the sudden. LOL Do you remember it from VBS as a kid? “Count your blessings; see what God has done. Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings; see what God has done.”
Well, alrighty then, I’m going to do some blessings counting today…
- My family and I woke up this morning.
- Sisters and BFFs who are like sister friends
- Clean water
- Place to live
- Overabundance of things
- Miss Pickles and all the other creatures living in our house – except the mouse guest(eeek)
- my car works! yipppeeee!
- blue skies and unusually warm weather this winter
- my giggling babies
- my healthy babies
- shoes without holes
- cheaper gas prices
- God ultimately being in control
- His perfect justice and mercy
- His forgiveness
Well, #21 just sums it up doesn’t it?! All these temporary things are such neat blessings to enjoy, but they are temporary. Hope it eternal. Salvation is eternal.
Do you know what “salvation” means? Deliverance from the power and penalty of sin. Yep, you, me, and the nice little ol’ lady down the street have sin… we are separated from God because of our disobedience to Him. What does this mean? Well, He is holy and cannot look on sin, can’t hang out with sin. Well, what is holy? It’s a concept that’s hard to understand because in our s*x, violence, and immorally saturated society we cannot comprehend purity – especially ultimate perfect purity. So why care whether or not you can be in God’s presence(aka Heaven)? Because sin has made us not completely whole. There’s something missing in our lives. I’ve tried to fill it in the past with alcohol, drugs, s*x, material things, vanity, kids, painting, you name it. But the only thing, the only one to make me whole is God. And that is only possible by believing that God, because of His great love for us, gave His Son to die for our sins… everyone’s, all the people that have ever lived and will live. Amazing! He was without sin and was the perfect sacrifice for ours. The Bible says “…believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved…” (Acts 16)
Seems simple right? Yep, it is but it’s not. By believing the amazing truth of how Jesus died for you on the cross and was raised overcoming death on the 3rd day, you are believing He did this for you. So I must want to follow Jesus like a sheep would a shepherd. I want to follow His commands and know that He always has my best in mind regardless of what this world throws at me!
Do you want to start on this journey? You can! Cry out to God right now, confess that you know you need Him and ask Him into your life. I’d love to chat with you about it! Leave me a comment below and let’s chat!
