I am fascinated with Tiny Houses. Are you? Have you spent time watching Tiny House Hunters or Tiny Luxury on HGTV? I have. Alot! I can’t seem to stop watching these shows or looking up plans online. The different storage ideas and use of space the little amount of space in each home is so interesting. How a little house can be moved cross country on a small trailer is so handy.
Right now, our little home isn’t on wheels but I feel like it’s a bit tiny for us. We went from having 3200 square feet to 1350. Before moving, there was at least 2-3 SUV loads of stuff/furniture/junk that we parted with. I’m still purging. We have a giant storage unit (because of all the “stuff” from that house) and this last week I’ve gone through almost every box. This weekend I’ll be having a yardsale in January. Yep, it’s not quite as chilly here in East Texas as the rest of the nation!
It is so exciting to get rid of a giant heaping pile of items that are not adding anything to our family and almost feel like an anchor dragging us down. On the sales floor, er grass, will be a twin bed, dresser, more furniture, two totes of Christmas decor (some of it from my neighbor who gave it to me to sell), clothes and more clothes, decorative items, books, and more. It is piled high in the storage unit and takes about as much space as a parked car would take up. It probably takes up more space than a tiny house would!!!!
Still we have tons of “stuff”. Some of it I’m having trouble parting with because these were things that were my or my husband’s grandparents. Like pretty dishes or paintings. I’m keeping these things. Some because I’m sentimental; some because I know they are worth some cash and maybe help pay for college someday. Other things I’m keeping because I have a strong emotional connection but am never going to use again… like a dolly my grandma made me when I was a little girl or an outfit one of my kids wore as a baby. I know it’s silly. I can’t make my kids babies again by holding onto these things and I can’t make myself a little girl getting to be with my grandma again. So why am I keeping these things tucked away in a storage building and not being used by someone that could use them? Sigh.
Anyone else have trouble with this? What are your thoughts on how to purge?
Obviously, I won’t be moving into a tiny house any time soon unless it comes with a 1500 sq ft trailer. LOL
