Ever wake up or look in the mirror and realize you don’t feel like yourself. This happens sometimes and doesn’t always have to be put in a negative light. There could be so many things affecting your perception.
All it may mean is that you need to take time to figure out why you feel this way and to make a change. Or maybe you ate something that didn’t sit right. Maybe you had a restless sleep. However, the challenge may be clearing your mind and knowing what you can be doing today to have a better tomorrow.
In this case, learn what to do when you don’t feel like yourself so you can get back to living your life to the fullest.
Determine if There’s A Reason or Culprit
There may be a reason why you don’t feel like yourself. It’s important to sit down and analyze what’s been going on in your life and why you feel the way you do. Consider if you’ve had a lot of stress at work or home or have had some sort of trauma such as getting into a car accident. You may not realize that it’s possible to have PTSD after an accident and this is why you’re out of sorts. It took me years to not flinch when I was driving and a car would be approaching a stopsign to the my righthand side. I had been hit by a young woman that sped out of a parking lot and she was going so fast it totaled my car. If you can pinpoint the “why” and dig a bit deeper into what has happened to you recently then you may be able to better work through your situation and emotions.
Take A Break
Technology and always being plugged in and connected to others is nice but can also be overwhelming at times. When you don’t feel like yourself you should consider taking a break and unplugging from social media and the Internet and work. You may be doing too much and trying to take on more than what you and your brain can handle. Use this as a chance to step back and remove yourself from your everyday responsibilities and technology. All you may need to feel better is a break and some time to collect your thoughts.
Do More of What You Love
When you’re feeling low or out of sorts then take a minute to think about what you love doing. Make time for activities, hobbies, and people that put a smile on your face. Learn to say no to others when there is stuff you simply don’t want to do or make time for. Instead, focus on you and your needs and do more of what you enjoy. This is an excellent way to pull yourself out of your slump and turn your attitude and disposition around for the better. Another option is to try new hobbies or get a different job and see if you begin to feel more passionate and engaged in life.
Seek Help & Support
Sometimes what you’re going through is tough and you won’t be able to feel better all on your own. Therefore, don’t be afraid to reach out and seek help and support from others. It may be that you open up to a friend or family member about what you’re going through and thinking. On the other hand, maybe you want to get professional help from someone who specializes in anxiety or depression and can assist you better. We are lucky to live in a world that’s full of potential treatments and ideas to help with a lot of mental health issues nowadays. Something as simple as counseling or seeing a therapist can help you talk through your issues, and we even have things like TMS therapy for depression. There are ways to treat your problem, so don’t feel as though you are fighting an unwinnable battle all on your own. Be honest with yourself about how you feel and be willing to open up and share about it with others to help you heal and cope.
Meditate About it
Another option for when you don’t feel like yourself is to meditate about it. Remove yourself from the busyness of everyday life and take some quiet time to yourself. Being alone isn’t always bad and might get you to refocus and feel more at ease. Meditating will boost your mood, improve your wellbeing, and can reduce your stress and anxiety. Not only meditate but get in the habit of practicing deep breathing exercises so that you’re able to calm yourself anywhere and anytime. In these quiet moments by yourself, you might gain some clarity into what’s on your mind and bothering you or holding you back the most currently.
Find A Creative Outlet
If you don’t feel like yourself then you may want to explore some creative outlets for managing your emotions. For instance, it might help to journal or write, draw, paint or color, or engage with photography. These types of activities will help you stop ruminating and you may soon feel calmer and more in control of yourself and your thoughts. Turn to art when you’re feeling confused about life and notice how expressing yourself in this way helps to improve your mood and health. Using creative outlets is a way to both lose and find yourself at the same time.
