Should you be someone who enjoys throwing dinner parties and has an awesome outside space, then why not throw your dinner parties in your garden? It’s a bit chilly in North Louisiana this time of year but we actually have had some 70 degree days. And even in “winter” our neighbors like to gather together for a good meal. Whether or not you have hosted a garden dinner party before, there are always ways to elevate it to enhance your guests experience. On that note, here are all of the top tips for hosting a great garden dinner party.
Create a great cooking setup
Having all of the right cooking tools when hosting a garden party can help you look like a celebrity chef. You will look the part as well as manage to create beautiful meals, which will guarantee to satisfy your guests. You’ll need your grill, a side table to place all the spices, platters, and utensils. And most importantly, you’ll want a cooler filled with ice, sodas, and beer nearby. The grill seems to be a moth to the flame type of thing for the men in our neighborhood Even if this is suppose to be a very fancy soiree; trust me that having a cooler of beer next to the grill will take the edge off and the guys will have a lot more fun. So be sure to set up the cooking area with everyone in mind. With that, remember to setup the cooking area so that after the party it will be easy and quick to clean up. For instance, an Ash Pan for Grill cookers in the garden will help to speed up the cleaning process and give you more time to cook and enjoy your food. You can take better care and have more time to cook without ash getting in your way. This can help improve the taste of the food when cooking for your guests.
Invite the right people
The people that you invite to a dinner party might be completely different to those that you would invite to a cookout. A good idea is to choose guests who know each other or you think they will get along together. It goes without saying but the party won’t be a comfortable experience for anyone if you choose people who clash or have a bad history. Ensuring to invite the right people will help make the garden dinner party enjoyable for everyone. Also, sometimes, it can often be best to invite adults-only so that they can wind down and focus on socializing and the food for the evening.

If children do come…
Speaking of hosting for children, if they do come to the garden dinner party then it is important to cater for them. Not just so they can have fun but so the parents can have a chance to socialize. The kids might not eat or like the foods you are offering to the adults, nor will they drink the same drinks. So, it’s a good idea to account for them and give them fun food and drink that they will guarantee to love. I generally try to have plenty of Capri Suns and small bottled water available in a cooler that they can have access to. For food for kids think of items that are kid friendly like chicken nuggets and mac n cheese. Be sure to ask their parents ahead of time if anyone has food allergies. And don’t forget to add some toys on the lawn for kids to play with. Simply a ball to play catch with, lawn tic tac toe, or other fun outdoor activities can keep the kids entertained while the adults relax. It is important to remember to account for everyone when hosting a garden party and ensuring that the children will not cause a fuss can help ensure to make everyone enjoy their time.
Decorate
To be a great host, it is a fun idea to decorate your garden. You could create a theme or simply make it look more inviting. You don’t have to break the bank to create ambiance. I’m a big fan of paper decor … paper plates and napkins can make the table setting just as pretty as a ridiculous amount of porcelain that you might not have. Or create fun paper flowers and pin wheels to add whimsy (and possible keep the children fascinated a bit as well). You could add table decor, add more garden flowers, use lights, and create a drinks table, which will elevate the look of your garden and make it more dinner party appropriate. The more effort you add to the look of your garden dinner party, the more fun and elevated it can be. Simple decor touches can make all the difference.
Using these tips can help you host a great garden dinner party. Using some decor and creating a dedicated cooking area will enhance the look and feel of the garden to add to your guest’s experience. But remember the most important part about a dinner party is enjoy getting to be with friends and family.
