Confidence is just one of those things that makes everything in life better, in one way or another.
When you’re feeling confident, you are almost inevitably going to be happier. You are very likely to be more outgoing and proactive. And you are less likely to self-sabotage along the way.
Everyone wants to be confident, and most of us could use a boost enhancing your confidence and self-esteem at least from time to time. For that reason, many different strategies, techniques, and routines have been developed specifically for the purpose of boosting confidence.
Here are just a few effective tips that you can follow in your life, that are likely to have a positive impact on your confidence.
Confront your insecurities
We all have things that we are insecure about, and that we don’t like to think about or confront. The more we avoid confronting those things and taking steps to address them, the more they contribute to latent background anxiety and general-purpose issues with self-esteem and confidence as a whole.
If there are particular insecurities of yours that you haven’t been confronting and coming to terms with, you need to begin taking steps to address those – maybe on your own, maybe in a therapeutic setting.
Certain insecurities will need a bit more soul-searching and work in order to begin addressing to your satisfaction, but others may just be a matter of carrying out a single decisive act, such as, for example booking an orthodontist appointment.
The general rule of thumb, either way, is that the things you hide from will always have some negative impact on you while you remain powerless to overcome them. When done in a healthy way or with help from a therapist, confronting your insecurities can help in enhancing your confidence.
Do difficult but worthwhile things (you may be surprised by what you can achieve)
Insecurity and a lack of confidence form a vicious cycle that can keep you from doing difficult but worthwhile things, largely out of a fear that you don’t have what it takes to get stuff done.
You can’t always count on your own ability to be an impartial judge of what you’re capable of achieving, though. The only way to build your confidence and expand your sense of what’s possible, is to set yourself challenges that you find daunting and to then work to overcome them.
Very often, you are likely to be surprised by just what you are actually capable of once you get started and build some momentum.
Remove yourself from toxic feedback loops
Poor self-esteem is often maintained by toxic feedback loops that you may be engaged in – including self-destructive habits but also the forms of information that you habitually take in.
If you constantly consume media, or browse websites, that reaffirm your sense of insecurity, you can be sure that things are only going to get worse, not better. You need to know that what you see and read on the internet is not always what is happening in real life. We don’t walk around with filters in front of our faces and don’t share pictures of the cookies we burned while getting one Pinterest or Instagram worthy.
Try, instead, to really shake things up and surround yourself with stimuli that help to move you in the direction of feeling empowered and capable.
A great place to start is by considering the groups of people you hang out with in a social context, most regularly. Do the behaviours, attitudes, and perspectives of those people uplift you or drag you down?
It’s difficult to boost your confidence if you have a toxic peer group. Removing yourself from toxic feedback loops can help your self esteems and take negativity out of your life.
Enhancing your confidence that is shattered will not usually happen overnight. Seek help from a therapist for insecurities that are overwhelming, challenge yourself in healthy ways, and step away from social media overload and from toxic people. Nurture your self confidence with this tips.
