Salad is one of the most convenient dishes that can be make. It’s also extremely healthy. As long as you don’t add too much high carb stuff to it, salad can be great for maintaining a balanced diet.
But let’s face it, salad can be a little boring sometimes. If you’re used to just buying pre-washed salad bags and throwing them together with some salad dressing, then it’s going to get boring after a few weeks or even days. You might just become someone who buys a bag of salad just to throw it away in two weeks.
If you really want to spice up your salads and make them more exciting, then here are a couple of tips that you can try.
Switch up the protein
There are many different kinds of protein that you can add to a salad in order to lift it from a side dish to a balanced meal. For example, if you’re making a broccoli and cauliflower salad, you can add some grilled halloumi to add a huge amount of protein to the dish. Halloumi is a cheese made of goat and sheep’s milk and high in protein. Alternatively, you can use black beans and lentils as the base of a salad for extra flavor and protein. Just remember that your salad doesn’t need to be all vegetables. There are plenty of protein choices that you can experiment with like chicken, steak, tuna, or seafood. Try out different combinations to make your salads a lot more filling and nutritious.
Try adding some herbs and microgreens
Herbs are a great source of antioxidants and they can add a surprisingly deep flavor to some of your salads. For example, parsley and dill are great choices if you want to boost the flavor and add a unique touch to an otherwise boring salad. Alternatively, you can load up on microgreens to not only add some extra flavor but also boost the nutrients that you get from the salad. These can be added to virtually any salad and will drastically change the taste to make it more interesting.
Use different textures
Different textures can make anything more enjoyable to eat. If there’s a uniform texture across your entire meal, then it can be really boring to eat. From using cheese and croutons to crispy corn, there are plenty of unique ways to add a bit of texture to your salads. Don’t just stick with the same vegetables. Instead, try something new and play with different textures to make your salad a little more interesting to eat.
Make your own dressings
Dressings are an essential component of any salad, and it’s important to try out different kinds because they serve as the base of the salad’s flavors. As such, we’d recommend experimenting with a few different kinds of dressings. Making your own is a fantastic option if you’re willing to do so, and the recipes for different dressings can be really simple. You can tweak recipes to make them a little spicier, a little sweeter, or even incorporate different herbs to transform the flavor. There is so much creativity in creating your own salad dressings and it can turn a boring salad into something really tasty and enjoyable to eat.
