6 Ideas For Fun Pillow Decor

Are you updating your home during the crazy pandemic? Seems like so many people are cleaning out their homes, making improvements, and creating a cozy environment to live in. I have dreams for this as well. We finally got a sleeper sofa this year so guests will have a place to stay and our living room is looking more like a family lives there and less like a wild fraternity dragged a bunch of random left on curbs to our house. LOL

Now that we have the base for our living room – the couch, two chairs from TJ Maxx, lamps, knickknacks, my husband’s grandma’s rocking chair, a jute type rug on clearance from Lowes last season, side tables, and 3 poufs that are the “coffee table” but actually are the most fun part of our living room.  So with all the “structure” for the living room is in place, it’s time to add flare. And I’m not talking about buttons on a work jacket! 

If you glanced at the room right now, it looks transitional but leaning more toward traditional. I’m a laid back artist who owns a blog and love to travel so I don’t really exude traditional style. I’m wanting to lean more toward natural bohemian chic. And with crisp white walls, gold and white frames, and a wood encased brick fireplace the room seems more like a blank slate than any certain vibe. 

How do you change up the entire attitude of a room on a small budget?

PILLOWS!

To give a more bohemian/nature-ish vibe, the pillows are going to be a little out of the ordinary. I’m talking… shaped like mushrooms, butterflies, and more. Here’s the mushroom pillows I found on Amazon…

I purchased the 15.7″ and the 7.8″. The smaller size arrive in a couple weeks but the large one took I think around 2 months with all the craziness happening right now. I had forgotten all about it and literally jumped up and down squealing like a teenager at a concert. LOL Here’s an overexposed pic of the pillow with Rocky the kitten who loves to sleep under them. LOL

To add to my color ideas for the room (reds, oranges, and yellows), I’m hoping to get some of these adorable, hand sewn succulent pillows from BohoBabyHeaven on Etsy. For the last 5 months I’ve been stalking these and that Etsy shop. I’m weird like that but a happy weird not a creepy weird! I’m actually thinking about adding green into the color mix. It is a boho theme so why not?!

It’s so fun that accessories can be found just about anywhere these days and that includes pillows. It’s hard to believe that I found one of my favorite throw pillows for the room from a gas station. Ok, ok, not just any gas station but the BUC-EE’s in Terrell, Texas. Oh, how I love that gastination! If you haven’t heard of Buc-ee’s then check out my article here about it.

So the pillow I found there is a VW van decorated with flowers and the saying “ENJOY THE RIDE.” Our family travels so much and are fairly laid back. Plus, I’ve always wanted a van although my family is not on board – metaphorically or physically. ahaha Anywho, it just fit the vibe of the room and is Rocky approved. LOL

Don’t have a Buc-ee’s near you? Get yourself to Texas ASAP! Or here’s a cool pillow with the same feeling that’s on Amazon…

I love butterflies. And guess what?! There is an orange butterfly shaped pillow that I want. Isn’t that fun? This has been sitting in our Amazon cart for a couple months. We are paying cash for everything and had some major things happen(like getting our roof replaced tomorrow after the hailstorm this past May). So I’ve been patiently waiting for this pillow to fly in my front door. Soon!

I’m also looking to get a photo of a scarlet ibis turned into a pillow. It will be around 11″ x 5″ so tall and slinder which adds interest to the room as well. I love these red vibrant birds! If you have a favorite pet, did you know you can submit a photo and get a Custom Pet Pillow? Aren’t these adorable! I might even have to get a Rocky the cat pillow made. My kids would love that!

Lastly, what’s a nature/bohemian inspired look without flowers? Makes no sense, right! That’s where these come into play… (click on photos for links) There are some flower ones just sitting in my cart waiting to be picked! 

This is just a small bouquet of flower pillows that Amazon offers. I know I’m going a bit overboard but I have a long couch, two accent chairs, a rocking chair, and a corner chair in my open concept dining, kitchen, and living room. So for me I’d like at least 8 pillows. So far I have 3 (two mushrooms and one groovy bus). That means 5 more to pick out and I’m definitely having fun with it!
