Ahoy! I bet ye didn’ know that me ol’ mate ‘n I are pirates, did ye? We recently went t’ St Augustine, Florida mainly ’cause o’ Th’ Pirate Store where ye can get suited up to dress like a pirate wit’ authentic attire. This store may nah be th’ largest in square feet but ’tis packed t’ th’ top wit’ all ye needs t’ join or start a crew o’ yer owns.
Ye may reckon we be crazy ‘n ye’d be right.
But wha”s a life without some fun? We dragged our sprogs across 4 states t’ see this store! Remember how we love goin’ t’ RenFests? Me ol’ mate wears pirate gear fer his outfit when we go. I generally try t’ channel th’ princess vibe wit’ or without bein’ at a RenFest. LOL
(Ok, ok, back to plain ol’ boring English because it’s hard to type in a different dialect… ‘specially the pirate-y type!)
Another one of the amazing stops on our Magee Family Epic Vacation was to go to The Pirate Store in St. Augustine. Actually, that and seeing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge were the main reasons we even went on vacation! Our first official stop in Florida was to St. Augustine and WOW that town is packed with historical places to visit, trolley tours, museums, amazing architecture, and THE PIRATE STORE! All good pirates should have swashbuckling garb that’s ready for all ocassions!
Here’s what you’ll need to feel ready to hoist the sails and search for buried treasure…
Men’s Clothing
For the men, these are the basics to dress like a pirate: a cotton Pirate block collar shirt, breeches, a waist coat or a waist coat, a hat, boots, and accessories. Accessories can include a belt or baldric which is a belt for a sword or other piece of equipment, worn over one shoulder and reaching down to the opposite hip. Pirates didn’t have anywhere to stash their ill gotten gain when it was divided among the crew so many men wore the jewelry they were able to plunder or kept coins and ingots in pouches. So you might be wanting to wear some jewelry treasure like giant rings and chains or a pouch to tie to your belt. Plus, it’s handy to have a pouch to carry your keys for your might modern day steed.(aka your car lol) There’s a bunch more accessories that you can add to your gear such as a holsters, flask holders, and more. The sky’s the limit on the fun you can have with this! Oh my goodness, and don’t forget ye flintlock pistol! You’ll be needing one of these to ward off any freebooter tryin’ to take ye favorite rum tankard!
These aren’t the exact pieces that my husband picked out during our shopping trip but it gives you an idea of pieces to look for. The store had so much more to choose from and we were lucky to be there on the day the owner was running the shop. Scott closed it down for us while we took turns trying on the different items(We didn’t want to be flashin’ our goods to the locals). He’s super knowledgeable about what will look most authentic for what you are going for and perfect about picking out sizes. Are you wondering if he is the go-to guy for all your pirate needs??? Look no further than this publication… There be the buccaneer!

Women’s Clothing
For the women, here are some ideas to dress like a pirate… Options include a skirt or breeches, cotton blouse, corset, boots, a hat and accessories. It’s up to you what you feel comfortable wearing. I opted for a skirt, cotton blouse, underbust corset, and a hat. Luckily, I already owned some oh so cool boots I found at The Shoe Depot at our local mall. Do you have questions about corsets? I did! For corsets being worn over shirts, there are underbust, cupped, sweetheart neckline, or straight line. These are the general choices for pirate clothing. I opted for the underbust with a cotton pirate shirt, a cinch up skirt, trident hat, leather belt, and a flintlock “pistol” to match me husbands. (He just loves it when I copy what he does. LOL)
Kid’s Clothing
I think for kids you don’t have to quite go “overboard.” *pun intended* But you can get the youngest of your crew little pirate shirts, pants, and hats and for your sweet little princess pirate maybe a 1700-ish dress and a hat. We haven’t quite talked our kids into dressing up for these things yet, but soooon we will convince them and hope they will enjoy the fun that it is to be pirate-y!
Accessories
I did cover this a bunch already. Still, accessories are like the finishing touches on any clothing ensemble especially when you want to dress like a pirate. Whether you are attending a black tie affair, meeting friend for coffee, or planning a raid on a cargo ship, accessories are the exclamation points at the end of your AAARRRRGGGHHH! We enjoyed finding items like the belts, hats, some jewelry, pouches, pistols, and more at The Pirate Store.
I’ve also enjoyed finding some more items like this oh-so-cool skull ring on the website TrendHim.com My husband is sooo hard to shop for holiday gifts like Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, and his birthday. I was excited to have found this ring and getting the opportunity to do a review on it. I like that it’s not heavy but very sturdy. My husband was super excited to get this ring to use with his pirate getup. It didn’t take very long for the ring to arrive and he has worn it around getting the feel for it. He gives it a thumbs up because he likes it and he’s using it like a thumb ring!
TrendHim doesn’t just offer rings but also bags, wallets, beard care, accessories, jewelry, and just about anything a man could need. Ladies, this is your go to place to shop for the man in your life!
See?! A one stop shop. Ok, don’t tell the captain of my house but here are my next planned purchases since Father’s Day isn’t actually that far away…
