Are you wanting to create a pretty fall garland but are limited in time? This is about the easiest DIY garland you can make. It really makes me feel like my fireplace is all fixed up for the season and works great both with fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving decorations.
Before you even go to the store to purchase supplies, measure about how long the garland needs to be. I picked up all the supplies for this at Hobby Lobby. Luckily, they were having a 40% off fall items so the tiny plush white pumpkins and golden leaves pack were all a great deal. The leather cord was full price so I used the 40% off coupon for that. I already had the thread and needle. All in all it was around $10-12. Plus, I can use the leather cord for other fun projects.
The first thing to do in this project is to measure out your leather cord. On our fireplace there are two nails at the back top of the mantle on either end. I made a loop knot (guess that’s what it’s called) on one end, draped it across the front of the fireplace for length, make another loop knot, and then cut the cord.
Next, I figured out where the first pumpkins should be placed on both ends. I took the cord down and sewed these into place by sewing through the plush part of the pumpkin and tying it to the cord in just the right spot. I made a couple loops to make sure it stays in place and tied this off to secure it. After this I took the cord down and spaced out the pumpkins how I wanted and sewed each one on.
I checked to make sure I liked how they were all spaced out(see this next picture) and VOILA! Next I took all the leaves out of the package and divided them between the pumpkins. Most spots had 2 leaves at least. The leaf or leaves were sewn into place by literally sewing through the leaves and tying onto the leather cord.
This easy fall garland made my fireplace just a little more cohesive. Now when I switch from Halloween to Thanksgiving it will be super quick!
