Looking for inexpensive (and delicious) easy table decor? Or even a fun little gift for friends. Look no further than the yogurt section at your local grocery store. Ok, ok, stick with me. There’s crafty supplies everywhere if you have an open mind, and in the case, love to eat yogurt.
Have you heard of Oui Yogurt? It’s a Yoplait brand that is “A thick and creamy, subtly sweet, fresh tasting yogurt made with non-GMO ingredients and poured and set in its own glass pot. I’m a fan of yogurt and especially this yogurt!
A couple years ago my sister discovered this type of yogurt while at the same time trying to figure out how to inexpensively decorate an entire banquet room of tables. She is our family’s (and her neighbors’) party planner. This woman can actually make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear and have the sow pay her to use the ear. She is a budget minded person with a very creative artistic flair. Which is a great combo for someone that helps decorate giant rooms for anything from weddings to birthday parties to military celebrations to retirement parties.
My other sister, my mom, cousins, and friends were soon recruited to start eating this particular yogurt and saving our cups for this easy table decor. She had come up with the idea of adding some hints of bling to table decor with these glass jars just right for small bouquets or battery operated tea light candles. I’m hooked on these delicious treats and always have a cute set of decorations that I can easily pull out of the closet for basically any occasion!
Here’s what you will need for 12 …
Glue 4 oz size or larger
Glitter 4 oz size (not the extra fine or fine size, the next size up)
A couple paper plates
STEP 1: Prepare
Cover your table with waxed paper. Then put a big blob of glue on a paper plate and dump out a ton of glitter on a separate plate. Sooo sparkly!
STEP 2: “Paint the glass”
Well, that pretty much sums it up. “Paint” the glue onto the sides of the cup.
Roll the sides onto the glitter. Check for blank spots and keep rolling until the entire glass cup is covered. Put this aside on the waxed paper to dry.
STEP 4:(Optional) Cover with shellac.
Put a clear coat of shellac on the yogurt cups to seal the glitter so it is less likely to leave small amounts of glitter behind of this easy table decor. But my sister says, “I for one think you should sprinkle a little glitter everywhere you go.”
Super simple right?! We added three of these little arrangements for each table at a my niece’s wedding and it really helped fill out the table in addition to the large arrangement. You could also use flameless tealight candles in these as it just the right size. Or even barely cover the cups with glitter or other design element and let the light slightly shine through for a shadow design on the table. The possibilities are endless!
Thanks so much to Aunt Favorite for this fun idea and the photos!
And don’t forget to Pin for later…
