It can be difficult to plan the perfect party for kids and adults to enjoy. After all, these are quite different groups. One of these groups will be perfectly happy engaging in polite conversation for a few hours, and the other will need some activities to keep them entertained. Of course, entertainment isn’t the only challenge that you’re going to face here.
Here are some of the best ways to tackle the perfect party for kids and adults challenge:
Choose A Theme
First, you might want to consider opting for a theme party. This is a smart choice because it provides a lot of possibilities that could be perfect for both adults and children. For instance, you might want to encourage everyone to wear a costume that goes along with the theme. While adults will get a kick out of this, you can even run a contest on which child is wearing the best costume. Kids love getting to dress up which can add to the excitement of the upcoming party. Adults can come up with hilarious ideas for costumes. Win-win. Don’t forget, theming can extend to everything from the decorations to the food.
Get Easy Food Options
You might be struggling with food choices and that’s understandable. Particularly, if you are planning on having a large group of both adults and kids over for the party.
A buffet could be the perfect answer! With a buffet, you can prepare a wide assortment of hot and cold food that everyone is going to enjoy. It’s also easier for guests to avoid issues with allergies, and it can be quick to prepare too. A fresh fruit platter from Umami Girl or a similar site can be prepared easily before the party begins. Other easy food options are chips and dip, veggie trays, a make your own sandwich area, cupcakes, cookies, and more!
Have a Kid Zone and an Adult Zone
Have some friends over for a movie night. We had some friends over recently to watch a new release but between our 3 kids and their 2 kids we knew the living room would be packed. So we created a kid zone with poufs, bean bags(they brought over theirs), pillows and blanket that were in the middle of the living room rug. Adults had access to all the chairs and the couch. The kids couldn’t keep still for the 2 hour movie so having this setup worked out great. [Plus having pizza and cupcakes make dinner easy peasy!]
Hold It Outside
Sometimes kids can get wild with all their energy! What better place to have a perfect party for kids and adults than outside? You don’t have to worry about something getting broken in the house or hearing “I’m bored!” when kids play outside (either because they are keeping themselves busy or you are out of earshot lol). For this reason alone if you are planning on having adults and children at your party, you might want to consider holding it outside. Plus, if a kid, or adult like me, is known for their likelihood of spilling or breaking things by accident, having the party outside puts less pressure on the parents, or again an adult like me withe the knickname “The Spiller” at my house.
You’ll definitely need to check what the weather is going to be like. But if it’s all clear then this is a great choice because it means that you have a wide variety of different activities to choose from. The kids can have fun with some sports and outdoor games while the adults can enjoy the sun. This also opens up the opportunity for a barbecue party which is always going to be a popular option with your guests.
Plan Two Separate Parties
The easiest way to approach this challenge could be to simply make sure that you are planning two completely separate parties in the same place. This means that there’s going to be different activities, entertainment and food. There could also be places for adults and kids to stay while the party is going on. This keeps everything simple and ensures that you don’t have to worry about issues with adults feeling as though they are on babysitting duty.
These are just some of the ways to plan the perfect party that adults and kids are both going to enjoy. Whether you’re having a birthday party or a fun get together or a small wedding reception, try out some of these ideas for the perfect party for kids and adults.
