If you plan on adding an extension to your home, there are ways you can save on this project. From doing DIY projects on your own, to finding the right professionals, to understanding what materials to buy and what you can forego, there are a few ways in which you can reduce costs of the project. So, how will you go about saving when extending your home, and increasing the resale value into the future?
1. Materials –
Buy in bulk or buy it yourself. When hiring a contractor to do the work, or tradesmen, you will find they typically increase the price they pay for the materials they buy. So, ask them for a base quote for services alone, and ask what materials are going to be needed for the work. You can then go out and buy the materials yourself. Also, if you buy in bulk quantities, if you are doing a larger section of the home, you can find discounts in this manner as well.
2. Shop –
When choosing the materials, you can’t simply settle on the first retailer or wholeseller you find. Rather, take the time to compare prices, get quotes, and compare on and offline. Doing this allows you to find better rates, and it is a simple way in which you can find the best quality materials for the work which is going to be done, and find it for the best price when the time comes to purchase it.
3. DIY –
If you are licensed, a contractor, or if you truly have the capability to do the work yourself, why not do this? This is a simple way in which you can add a new addition to the home, put your own touches on it, and yes, you are going to save a great deal on the cost of the work. Know that if you choose this route, you will want to take the time to do the work properly, make sure foundation is leveled, and fully understand the intricacy of the work you are doing to your home.
4. Go with one tradesperson –
If you plan on building an extension, doing some work in other areas of the home, or plan on doing multiple projects, hire one person or company. They are typically going to give you a discount price, as opposed to if you were to hire more than one company to do each of the projects individually. You can hire the best team for the job, and you are going to save on the overall cost of the work they are going to do to the home as well when you hire one company to do it all.
With so many companies or contractors you can hire, when it comes to doing work on your home, you want to know how to find the best deal, and best people for the job of adding a house extension. These are a few tips to ensure you hire the right team, are happy with the work, and of course find the best pricing for the work to be done as well.
