Everyone knows how important it is to stay on top of their health and fitness. However, as many people find out, it’s not always as easy as simply having the will to be healthy. The human body is simultaneously both straightforward and complicated, after all. There are other issues too. Perhaps the thing that holds us back the most is our motivation and determination. We’re comfortable with doing the bare minimum, but anything beyond that can feel a little too far. Yet if we’re going to be our healthiest selves, then it’s important to go the extra mile or at least limit ourselves to less donuts!
Here are some simple steps to help optimize your health and fitness.
Find a Role Model
You might have grand ambitions of where you’ll go on your fitness journey. But the truth is that you’ll likely stumble at one point or another, because you just don’t have all the information that’s required to do your best. That’s why it’s a good idea to find a role model. It’s like with anything else in life; it’s always good to have someone else who can show you the way. It’s not like they’ll be by your side the whole way. But if you need someone to show how to workout at the gym, or how to eat healthily, then their knowledge will be highly valuable.
Find an Accountability Partner
It has been an eye opener for me and what I’m actually eating everyday now that I have a friend that I “fess up” to a couple days a week. So if I try to indulge during the week or even binge eat, I know I’ll have to tell my friend. This mentally has helped me step away from the extra piece(s) of pie and all. We haven’t actually seen each other in years but message our food intake to each other over Facebook. Find an accountability partner that can help you keep your goals whether it’s eating healthy, making sure you exercise, or becoming a more positive thinker.
Understand Your Body
There’s a lot of general health advice that you can and should follow. For example, everyone will benefit from not smoking cigarettes, for example. But there’ll also be things that are specific just to you. Everyone’s body is different, after all! So it’s important to understand your specific body, and what it needs. One of the best ways to do this is to take a DNA test, like those available from Dynamic DNA Laboratories. Once you have the information that you need, it could help to optimize your diet and fitness routines for your specific body.
Your Bad Habits
It’s not just that your body will have its own unique needs, but also that you’ll have your own way of thinking. Everyone has bad habits that they should get rid of. It’s just that not everyone is aware of what they are. For this, a little bit of self-analysis will be handy. Look at your lifestyle, and try to identify the things that might be dragging your health down. It could be that you’re spending too much time sitting down, or that you’re eating unhealthy meals too often. Once you know what yours are, you’ll be able to work on putting them behind you.
Finally, the best way to optimize your health and fitness: push yourself! It’s easy to stay in the safe lane in life, but there’s a lot of merit in going a little further. Could you go a little harder at the gym? Or take cold showers, or cycle to the office? Or change up your eating habits? All of these things and more can help ensure you’re as healthy as can be.
