Being a parent can be challenging enough even at the best of times, so it’s important to be as prepared as possible with the littles of things to ensure your children are kept as happy as possible. In this post, we are going to be looking at a few things to keep around to make parenthood a little easier in the early years, and maybe even into the later ones too. These are also good ideas if you have nieces, nephews, or grandchildren as well.

The Joy Of The Challenge
While parenting may be exhausting and challenging, it can also be the most rewarding thing you will ever do. You are responsible for the life of a tiny human being, and it’s important to do whatever we can to protect these little miracles. All parents go to extreme lengths to protect their little ones from harm, but when it comes to preparing, there are often some rather simple things that go ignored. Hopefully, this post will highlight a few of those things and prepare you for even the tiniest of situations. Being prepared ahead of time can help keep little hands and minds occupied which can be challenging!
An Out Of The Way Medicine Cabinet
The first and by far, the most important thing you should have as a parent is a well-stocked medicine cabinet. You will also need things like lidocaine cream, savlon and other creams to deal with stings and burns. Having fever medicine like paracetamol (aka acetaminophen that can be found in medicines like Tylenol), bandages, a thermometer, or another other medicine you deem necessary is important to have on hand. One of the quickest lessons you will learn as a parent is that your child will get ill at some point. It seems like my kids would always get sick in the middle of the night, save yourself a middle of the night run to the store by being armed with one of many magical elixirs at all times because you never know when kids can get sick or hurt. As the title also mentions, don’t forget to keep the medicine cabinet way out of reach of the young one, all parents know that little minds love exploring. It important to make sure this cabinet is very hard for a child to get to and it is a good idea to install a child lock on this cabinet.
An Activity Box
Another one of the most important things you can have around as a parent is an activity box. Now, you should not get this confused with a toy box. An activity box is a great way of encouraging learning in your little ones from an early age. In your activity box, you should include everything from numbers to colours and also have plenty of books to encourage storytime from a very young age. It’s important to remember that young minds are incredibly open to everything you are willing to give to them. If you spend one hour per day with the activity box, you will notice that as your young one grows older, they will actively want to get out the activity box and take part in some active learning.
A Busy Bowl
One of my favorite things my kids love about visiting their aunt is the “busy bowl.” She has a collection of little toys like tiny stuffed animals, matchbox cars, mini slinkies, little noise makers, spinning tops, kids meal toys, and the like. When my kids were toddler age and we’d visit, we could enjoy a good conversation because my little ones would be so busy!
As you can see, this has been only a couple of things you should be considering as a parent, but just getting these things sorted will make parenthood so much easier. Having a locked medicine cabinet stocked with the necessities will help give you peace of mind. While they are busy with the activities, you will have more time to get chores done. Plus, they will also help baby through their first few years.
