The Valentine’s mantel decorations we so much fun to put together this year! I wasn’t even on planning on making a fancy shmancy decorated mantel for this love-ly holiday until I was in Michael’s the other day when they had 80% off the Christmas decorations. I couldn’t help myself and picked up all of these for just around $20…
When these scrap wood decorations were made this year, they were primed on each side because in the back of my mind I knew I wanted to use them for more than one holiday… Valentine’s Day!
I gather up some acrylic paint used from previous projects, a paint brush, a permanent marker, a paper plate to mix the paint on, and a pencil with eraser.
First I outlined hearts or lettering for each board. Second, I painted each board. After the paint dried, I think outlined or drew the lettering with a black permanent marker. Viola!
Putting the Valentine’s mantel decorations all together wasn’t to hard except for deciding what to do with the floral decorative sprays. At first I tried putting these in one my favorite vases ever(got this as a wedding present 19+ years ago). You can see here why I decided against it! The stems just wouldn’t all fit in there and then adding the silver and hot pink layers made it just look funky.
So I pulled all of these out and started taking each piece apart to be able to use easier…
Now with that all ready to use, I assembled the light up letters with each other and also the battery pack. Aren’t these adorable! The remote on/off has been sooo handy! I’ve been wanting to purchase some for such a long time and when I see mega clearance I just can’t help myself!
Next was time to assemble the banner to go on the front of the Valentine’s mantel. My daughter and I had fun using crayons to add hot pink to the embossed flags. The banner was made by putting a hole on either side of the top of each banner and then threading the curly ribbon through…
The last touch was to add the decorative floral sprays by first adding the crystal sprays behind the letters. Next, adding the hot pink sprays, Last, adding the silver leafy twigs.
See how romantic it is at night?! 😉
Tah dah!!! Here’s the finished display…
