Being human is an experience that is bound to bring some pain along the way. Our bodies change as we get older, adopt different diets, exercise regimes and get new jobs. Aging is a process that none of us can slow down despite our best efforts! We are all looking for ways to soothe our aching and aging bodies, whether it is through medical help, diet, exercise or physical therapy.
One thing that most people can report having experienced at some point is back pain. Normal aches and pains are experienced by all, but where’s the line between normal aches and pain that requires treatment? Let’s take a look at three major signs that you need a chiropractor.
Your back pain prevents you from completing your regular routine.
If you experience back pain that is preventing you from going about your day to day life, this is a sign that something is wrong. Don’t wait until your foot is going numb like it did! If this pain is acute, meaning it mainly comes from one side or part of your back, it is likely that a muscle has gone into spasm or the vertebrae in your spine are misaligned. Constant back pain that requires painkillers daily or even weekly is not normal and requires expert care and repeated recovery exercises. You need to visit a medical professional for help.
It is advisable that you see a chiropractor or an orthopaedic doctor for this pain. They will assist in diagnosing your condition and give you further exercises, medicine, and/or produres to help alleviate pain.
You have difficulty bending or twisting.
Not everybody can touch their toes or pirouette like a ballerina, but all of us should have a decent range of movement in our spines. Your spine is the anchor on which the rest of your body’s movement relies, so it is absolutely crucial that it moves as freely as possible. Spine flexibility can help you complete the necessary tasks of life, such as picking up your child, moving house, driving a car without pain and exercising.
If you can’t bend your spine as well as you used to, or you struggle to look over each of your shoulders, it is worth seeing a chiropractor to increase flexibility and build strength. On top of this, you should incorporate gentle but strengthening exercise into your routine, such as yoga and pilates.
You get headaches all the time.
Headaches can have many causes. It could be that excessive screen time is causing visual headaches, or perhaps your diet or hormones are causing them. However, it is likely that your back and neck alignment and muscle tension is contributing to your headaches. If you get regular headaches, and even migraines, it could be that the tense muscles in your upper back and neck are contributing to this pain. Seeing a chiropractor could help alleviate these guarded, painful muscles.
