Every once in a while, we like to mix things up around our house. Last week we had a party. It all started a couple weeks ago when our family watched the first Star Wars movie. Wait, it started a couple months before that when my 4 year old started talking about Star Wars although my husband and I had never talked about the saga and we had yet to see the movie. So we finally watched the first movie. Then last week, my husband announced that we would be watching the next movie at the end of the street and decided we should make it like a party.
I’m all for parties! After picking the kids up for school we headed to the local party supply store. Here’s where my tip comes in.
For a party there are really only a few things you need:
- Food and beverages
Yep, that’s it. And really the food is optional. If you don’t have your party around a mealtime like noon or 6pm, then you could skip the food and just throw some peppermints on a table.(Alright, put them in a little bowl we aren’t that lazy!) Another option is to have a potluck where each guest brings a dish. If that’s not a laidback way to have a party, I don’t know what is!
For decorations, Star Wars themed plates and napkins did the trick. We also got some Star Wars glasses that were on clearance making them just a little more than the plastic printed party cups but totally worth it as we’ll be watching the rest of the movies over the next couple months. The party store also had some paper masks in an 8 count. The characters were Chewie, a Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, and a pilot.
For food, my husband just grilled some hot dogs. Hot dogs and chips and we have a party! I love cruising pinterest for ideas(here’s one of my party boards). But for a weeknight family movie night, no need to stress over a perfectly sculpted Darth Vader helmet cake. Yep, it exists and to prove it I included the link. LOL
My kids think the one must have to make it a party are balloons everything else is optional. The party store also had helium balloons so we got 5 of those – black, blue, white, red, and silver. I could have skipped getting the tableware and masks. This bunch of balloons would have been all we needed. But let’s face it wearing a wookie mask is just fun!
The entire cost for our weeknight Star Wars party was around $25. I did spend $10 on a set of 4 Star Wars glasses but without that I could have only spent around $15 including the hot dogs and chips. Another way to spend less for an at home movie night party would be to buy a pack of balloons and blow them up yourself. That would have saved another $6.
I couldn’t pass up these glasses though since my 4 year old has been reluctant to give up his sippy but now we have these, no problem! 🙂 Yippeeee!
We had a good time watching the next movie in the Star Wars line of movies and the 3 must haves for a party(decorations, food&beverages, and balloons) made it really feel like a celebration.
What’s your one must have to make a party? I’d love to hear from your in the comments below. 🙂
