A few years ago, you were viewed as basically healthy if your diet just included the occasional salad. But huge advances in our understanding of nutrition and natural remedies, the role of the gut microbiome in overall mental and physical health, and the qualities of what we’ve come to call ‘superfoods’ has led to much new knowledge about what really constitutes a great diet.
Even the World Health Organisation recently revised it’s guidance upwards on the number of fruits and vegetables we should be eating in a single day, and the idea of ‘eating a rainbow’ has taken off as we come to understand more about the role of different items in supporting our health. In fact, there is so much out there now that you could easily be forgiven for struggling to keep up with all the latest dietary know-how. You may well find yourself wondering if you need to replace your chamomile tea with matcha tea or trying to find out what is moringa good for at three in the morning! This is where supplements can come in really handy. Although supplements should never replace eating fresh fruit and veggies in their raw state (processing and cooking destroys a portion of the nutrients they naturally contain), they can be a great way to add that extra boost to an already healthy and well-balanced diet, and offer your body a wider range of the things that it needs in any given day.
Super supplements, or supplements in general, come in many forms, from easy-to-swallow-on-the-go capsules to powers that can be added to smoothies, oatmeal, shakes, soups and juices. The Internet is your friend when it comes to sourcing supplements at the best prices and having them shipped straight to your door.
Check out these great additions to your diet to get your glow going today…
Absolutely Acai
This little Amazonian berry packs a huge punch for your health, and has been used as a medicine by indigenous peoples in the region for many years. Recently, the Acai berry has gone from Amazonian secret to new wonder ingredient that is cropping up everywhere from teas to breakfast cereals, and the berries themselves are becoming more common to be found in fresh, dried and powdered varieties.
Acai look and taste similar to blueberries, but are harder to get, due to the fact they grow on palm trees as high as 60 feet in the air and then spoil quickly once picked. Most berries add valuable antioxidants to your diet, but Acai at much higher levels than others. This is important because protecting your body from oxidation can help to prevent heart disease, diabetes and other degenerative conditions we develop as we age. Acai berries also contain Omegas 3 and 6, recognised as a nutritive support against high blood pressure and high cholesterol. So really, can you afford not to be eating them?
Brilliant Baobab
This African fruit has been used to treat fever, malaria and gastrointestinal problems for many years, but until now has been largely unknown in the Western world. Containing ten times the amount of Vitamin C found in an equivalent serving of oranges, baobab really is a superfruit and Super Supplement. When our bodies are fed with foods rich in Vitamin C, they produce more collagen and elastin, which is hugely beneficial for our skin and joints. Baobab also enhances the body’s fat burning capabilities during a workout and gives an energy boost, making baobab powder the perfect addition to your morning smoothie!
Crazy For Cacao
As the pure and rawest form of chocolate, you might assume that cacao is a sugary treat which won’t do much for your health, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Much more bitter tasting without all the added sugars, milk and fats found in your favorite chocolate bar, this stuff has a high antioxidant and magnesium content which supports heart health by Lowering blood pressure and reducing the build-up of plaque on artery walls. Companies like The Raw Chocolate Co can help you to get your chocolate fix in a much healthier, but still delicious, way!
Cracking Chlorella
Most of us won’t have heard of this particular dark green super detoxer, but it’s an amazing support to the body against the toxins found in our food, water, air, clothing and even beauty products. It binds with toxins, chemicals and heavy metals in the body and helps to remove them. Chlorella is naturally high in magnesium which improves blood sugar levels, keeps our hearts healthy and is great for aiding relaxation and a calm mood. Scientists are increasingly recognizing the role of our gut bacteria in our health and digestion, and taking Chlorella supplements can promote the production of healthy flora, while it’s rich carotenoid content helps with nasty diseases like cancer and diabetes.
Marvellous Moringa
The moringa tree has been called ‘the tree of youth’ in native cultures to India, Pakistan and Nepal and now we are coming to understand it’s powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective properties better. Packed with amino acids, potassium, protein and Vitamins A, C and E, the powder is generally made from the leaves of the tree, although the pods, roots, bark and flowers are also edible. No wonder it’s considered a Super Supplement. Fighting against cell damage from free radicals, moringa keeps our organs healthy and functioning well and suppresses inflammatory enzymes to protect against chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, arthritis and obesity. It’s also known for supporting brain health and cognitive function as a neuro-enhancer – even being trusted as a treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease with favorable preliminary results. Protecting the liver, boosting your mental health, and even enhancing wound healing – this is one incredible plant.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing this post. I love reading the details you put into it and seldom do I read articles that contain information that is different from the others. The internet has been saturated by healthy, particularly diet articles and it’s a breath of fresh air to read one that’s fresh. I love Moringa and aside from its dietary benefits, it also gives my hair a shiny glow. Plus, I added it to my diet to almost a year ago to help me recover from my rhinoplasty surgery — and it did. The wonders of nature are truly boundless. Keep posting. Cheers!
