Dealing with a difficult time in your life is never easy. It can feel like an endless spiral. Taking things one day at a time is a good way to start to rebuild, and hopefully, find some peace. Getting into some kind of routine can help you get back on track, while also helping you practice self-care.
Here are some things to think about that can help you build your bounce-back routine to bring some structure into your life again.
Relegate bad habits from your routine
A lot of what we’ll discuss here relates to routine-based improvements that you can make, but it’s also important to remember that you can’t perfect a positive routine until you relegate the bad habits that may have made themselves at home while you were struggling. Addressing heavy drinking or other worrying addictions that may have become a regular part of your routine when you were struggling is especially important before you can take any other steps to get yourself back on your feet.
Obviously, seeking professional help and talking to loved ones is the best option that you have here in the long run, but you may also prefer to take positive steps towards some healthy ways to help you stay sober within your general daily life. Getting into the regular habit of repeating positive affirmations, reading stories from people who have succeeded in their recoveries, and even some good old self love can all be a huge help here. Then, once you’ve put those less-favorable routines behind you, you can begin to adjust smaller areas of your routine that will also help towards your recovery overall.
Get into a morning and nighttime routine
When you slip out of a routine, your sleep habits can end up being all over the place. Pull it back by making sure you set yourself a regular bedtime and wake-up time. Try to get at least eight hours if you can.
Developing a morning routine can get your day off to a nice, structured start. If you’re well rested, you should be energetic at this time, making it a great time to exercise or do some of the things on your to-do list. Stick with it for at least a few weeks, it will soon become a habit that’s a firm part of your routine.

Take some time to reflect and meditate
Throwing yourself back into a routine can seem like a good way to take your mind off things, but it can mean that you forget about yourself. There’s nothing wrong in taking a bit of quiet time to yourself, which is why meditation can be a good way of taking a step back when you need to. Turning to yoga can be an excellent way of meditating, helping you enjoy some relaxing time to yourself, while helping you become more in tune with your body. When things get too much, take a step back and find the time to meditate.
Focus on a healthy diet
A healthy diet can boost your body in mind in many ways. Taking some time to nourish your body through healthy home cooking can make sure your body gets what it needs, while also ensuring you avoid excess sugar, salt, etc. that can affect your mood or energy levels. Spending more time in the kitchen can be a great form of therapy too, so why not try experimenting with some different recipes to see if you can find some new favorites?
Talk to someone
If you have been going through a rough patch due to a traumatic experience, then there are options besides therapy that can help you, as well. You can look at treatments like EDMR therapy near you to take an approach that works alongside any counseling you might be experiencing. This can help reduce the symptoms of conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder.
Some days will be easier than others. Everyone has their good and bad days. On those days when you might not feel like yourself, it’s good to know there’s someone you can talk to if you need it. There is counselling for everyone that can benefit you if you would like to get some things off your chest, and can be an important part of your self-care routine going forward. Remember that your friends and family are there to listen too, so try not to shut yourself off from everyone on those not-so-good days.
Whatever you’ve been through, it’s important to understand there’s no deadline or clock for your recovery. Take your time, focus on boosting your own wellbeing through baby steps each day, and eventually you’ll find a routine that works for you to help you heal and get yourself back on track.
