There are so many reasons why I’m loving the IntelliDent Toothbrush Shields. The people from IntelliDent were so nice to send a package with a box of 10 disposable shields and literature and even a MouthGuard Shield to try out! (Which I actually have since I sometimes grind my teeth at night.)
I wasn’t so sure if these would be something I would want to keep using but after trying them out I definitely will! They are easily purchased at Walgreens, Walgreens.com, select DrugMart locations, Harris Teeter, DrugStore.com, and leading pharmacy chains.
The toothbrush shield wicks away moisture from the bristles. After I brushed my teeth, I tested to see if the toothbrush was staying wet with the shield on and it actually dried quickly! The shields are laboratory tested to be 99.9% effective barrier against airborne and surface bacteria. They are disposable and effective up to 7 days. And one of my favorites I will be using these to replace the plastic toothbrush holders that I always lose when we are on trips. Plus, those plastic holders are breeding grounds for bacteria! I also like that my kids’ toothbrushes won’t be co-mingling in the toothbrush cup and sharing germs any more.
So all of the above are great reasons of why I’m loving the disposable toothbrush shield but let me tell you my #1 reason I’ll be using these shields… flies. Yep. The main reason is my hatred for flies and how they eat. From reference.com “To turn decaying matter and solid food into a liquefied state, they throw saliva up on the food source. The saliva then liquefies the food so that the flies can suck it up using their proboscis.” Did your tummy just turn? Yep, mine too reading that. I don’t like the idea of flies being on my toothbrush while I’m not around.
Before we moved a couple weeks ago to our new place, we were living in a duplex. Across the street and behind one lot was the school’s FFA barn with lots of cute animals like sheep and pigs. Unfortunately, there were also LOTs of flies. A ridiculous amount of flies would get in our duplex. For example, I killed 20 flies one time in our little home. ICK!!!!! If I had known about these toothbrush shields then I for sure would have been using them!
We don’t seem to have such a big issue with flies now but I will still be using these. I like the fact that I know that bacteria that’s floating around in the air after a toilet is flushed won’t be landing on my toothbrush. Yep, the simple act of flushing a toilet can contaminate a 6 foot radius.
Also like I said before I’m glad to use these shields on vacation and visiting family too! Our plastic toothbrush holders have long since been lost and all the toothbrushes are just thrown in a ziploc bag for our trips. Now before throwing all our
germs toothbrushes together in a bag they’ll get a shield first!
Lastly, I’d like to mention they are so easy to use that my 8, 6, and 4 year olds can use these. It’s like opening a band aid package. See…
After opening the package, peel off the shied and opening. Slide in the toothbrush and voila!
Comment below and let me know how you keep your toothbrush clean. I’d love to hear what you have to say!
