There’s nothing wrong with being a cooking novice, in fact, even the great chefs that run three-star Michelin establishments once held this status, too. Cooking should be about the fun of exploration, learning to sustain yourself in a healthy manner, and in appreciating cultures and the versatile recipes they’ve concocted over the centuries.
It’s okay if you’re not that confident in the kitchen. But that doesn’t mean you should stay that way forever. A healthy interest, and the willingness to start small can mean everything. So don’t worry if you’re not a master with sous vide machines, or if you aren’t so confident in crafting a Creme Brulee.
In this post, we’ll discuss how to get started in your kitchen, a few good places to gain your foothold in the world of cooking, and why failure can often lead to success. Furthermore, we’ll discuss the priorities that are essential to get right first of all, before you try to move to an intermediate level.
Try One-Pot Recipes
There’s a great deal of worthwhile cooking recipes you can enjoy with simple or singular tools. Try To Make A Few Separate Food-Group Meals
It might sound strange to say, but sometimes it’s okay to split up your meals into their constituent food groups so you can understand how proportions of each ingredient will work best on your plate. So for example, a first-time cook might steam some broccoli and peas and place a small knob of butter on top, oven-cook some sweet potato fries, and perhaps place a few turkey breasts, well seasoned, and also cooked in the oven onto the plate. This isn’t a fancy recipe, more like a collection of tasty ingredients – but dishes like this show you how to make vegetables, carbs, proteins and fats worth together to construct an acceptable meal. You won’t win any awards, but it’s a nice place to start.
Experiment With Spices & Herbs
In general, spices and herbs have dishes that they work best in. Any chef that holds a set of spices they can enjoy properly is almost always going to grow in confidence, so don’t be afraid to make this vital investment.
With this advice, you’ll see that it’s okay if you’re not so confident in the kitchen. It only takes a little while to learn basic skills and move on from there.
