Whether you’re working from home or back in the office, daily life can be extremely stressful. We’ve all had those days where you’re watching the clock, eager to finish work, and let out a lot of built-up tension. Perhaps it’s a particularly busy period in your line of work and loads of extra stuff has to be done. Or, maybe there was an issue and you spent the whole day trying to solve it. Whatever the reason, work-induced stress is horrible!
The worst part is, you start thinking about what caused your stress even when you’re not working. So, the tension never leaves and can get worse and worse each day. Instead, allow yourself time to relax and de-stress after work every evening.
Here’s ideas on what to do:
Turn off all your work communications
Do you have a work phone? If so, turn it off until the next morning. For work emails, turn the notifications off so you don’t see them. You’re not paid for any emails you read or messages you respond to when you’re off work. Usually, you can’t actually do anything until you’re back at work the next day. So, avoid getting bombarded with extra stress by cutting yourself off and forgetting about work for the rest of your day. Remember balancing work and home life is essential for your mental and emotional health. You won’t get any calls or emails this evening, leaving you with time to relax.
Find something to distract your mind
When you get home, switch off from work by doing things that require your attention. This can help leave your mind with no room to think about all the work stress. Cooking dinner is one thing, but try to find hobbies or plan things you enjoy to do when you get home. Some people love knitting and crochet to relieve stress, others prefer reading books, container gardening, watching TV, or even playing video games. Maybe you want to get rid of your mental stress by working out and releasing a lot of tension and anger in the gym? The exact tasks you do are completely your choice, just try to have a schedule where you’ve got other things to focus on after a day of work, so you can’t think about what’s making you stressed.
Run a nice hot bath
Before you go to sleep, get into the habit of running a hot bath for you to lie in and relax. Pop a bath bomb in there for added relaxation, and maybe even try some CBD oil to help you de-stress while you’re laying in there. This combination can help make you feel so relaxed as your muscles are soothed in the warm water, and you can just breathe deeply and enjoy all the scents you smell. It’s the perfect way to end the day, helping you go to sleep with a clear mind.
There’s nothing worse than getting home from work and feeling up to your eyeballs in stress. Practice having a stress-relieving system in place that lets you unwind, forget about your worries, and achieve a peaceful state of mind every evening.
