If you’re looking to succeed in life, one of the most important things you need is self-confidence. This can help you in everything from getting further in your job to progressing in your relationships with friends, colleagues and your other half. If you find you struggle with self-confidence, there are many reasons why this could be and luckily there are ways you can help to combat it and grow as a person. Here are some of the top ways you can improve your self-confidence in no time.
Fix any long-standing appearance insecurities you have
While your appearance isn’t something that you should worry about and real confidence comes from within, if you do have a long-standing insecurity it can be an idea to get it sorted to help your confidence. For example, if you have thinning hair or hair loss that is concerning you, you could look at a hairmax that can help stimulate the follicles and promote hair growth. If you’ve always hated your nose, you could look into getting rhinoplasty, or if you’ve suffered with acne for years that won’t go away, go and see a specialist who could sort it out for you.
Recognise your achievements
It can be easy to just move from achievement to achievement, never recognising something that has been done. This can affect your self-esteem as you never acknowledge what you’ve done well and just treat it as the norm. Instead, next time you hit a milestone either at work or in your personal life – perhaps you’ve reached a weight loss goal or written a book – take time to reflect and be proud of yourself. Go out to celebrate, write about it on social media. No matter what it is, recognising your achievements can help to boost your self esteem in no time at all. You could speak to your boss at work and find out what you have been doing well and if there are things they are particularly pleased with. This can help you to know what you’ve been excelling in as well as perhaps any areas you might be able to improve and better yourself, which is always a good thing!
Surround yourself with positive people that help you grow
We are largely influenced by those we spend our time with and as such, it’s important that you surround yourself with people that have a positive influence on your life. In fact, according to motivational speaker Jim Rohn, you are “the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This is all fine and well if the people you surround yourself with are motivated, driven and proud of you, but if they’re not, could have a detrimental effect on your life. You want to surround yourself with people that you leave and feel good about yourself. How often have you met up with friends or colleagues and left feeling anxious or that you’re not good enough? Or perhaps people that don’t motivate or push you. This can all impact negatively on your self-confidence and mean you aren’t living your life to its full potential.
Learn to say no to things
In life, it can be very easy to say yes to everything because you feel obliged. This could be because you don’t want to let a friend down, you don’t want to let work down, or you just feel you would be letting yourself down. Remember that this isn’t the case. Saying no to things can actually be a big help to your self-confidence. If there is something you don’t want to do, perhaps because you’re tired, you have other things you would rather be doing, or you just don’t want to go, don’t feel obliged to say yes. Real friends won’t mind and it can also be a big empowering boost to find that saying no doesn’t have any repercussions. You could find by saying yes all the time you soon suffer from burnout or social anxiety which is no good to you or anyone else, so put yourself first.
When it comes to improving your self-confidence, it doesn’t require you to make large, overwhelming changes all at once. Instead, you need to do little things gradually and soon you will find you are a much more confident and happy person. Surround yourself with those that lift you up and constantly tell yourself positive things you have achieved. Self-confidence comes from within and soon you will find you are much happier and more positive.
