Whether you favor a short, simple style, or you have long, flowing locks, most people want their own hair to look great. People envy all those celebrities with gorgeously sleek and shiny hair, that always seems to hang just right. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have an entourage that are caring for our every need and putting each hair strand back in place during photo shoots. I really want an entourage! LOL Still, we’d love the kind of shinier hair, that even after a harsh gust of wind, looks perfect. The type of hair that always looks like it’s meant to be like that, whether it’s straight and sleek or windswept and messy.
As shallow as it can sometimes seem, our hair can play a big part in how we feel about ourselves. When we’ve got good hair, we feel confident and attractive. For some people on bad hair days, our confidence dips, we’re worried about what other people think, and tempted to hide under a hat.
Beautiful hair can sometimes seem impossible; especially after a bad hair cut! There always seems to be so much that you need to do to keep it looking and feeling good. Keeping it shiny and healthy is often the best thing that you can do. When your hair shines, it’s often easier to manage and healthier, and it looks it.
Here are some of the easy things that you can do to get shiny hair.
Wash it Less
Many of us get into the habit of washing our hair every day. If we leave it for a day, it looks greasy and lifeless. But, only because it’s gotten used to being washed so often. You are stripping out your hair’s natural oils, which can lead to damage.
Try to wash your hair less often. Twice a week is usually enough. It will take some getting used to, but soon, even on the second and third days, you could have shinier hair. It will also be stronger and healthier.
Use the Right Products
There are so many products on the market today, and it can be tempting to think that you need all of them. For most of us, shampoo and conditioner to suit our hair type will do unless your hair has specific needs.
Target Specific Problems
Many of us have specific problems, such as a flaky scalp, or pimples on our scalp and hairline, that irritate and stop our hair looking it’s best. Find the scalp pimple cause or the underlying cause of other issues, and then the products that will treat them. Try products that include tea tree oil or dandruff shampoo for flaky scalp. If you are unsure, your hairdresser is often a great person to ask or see a dermatologist.
Brush it Thoroughly
Brush your hair every morning, even if it looks ok. Brushing out knots and distributing natural oils can help to keep it shiny and soft.
Change Your Diet
Your diet plays a massive part in how you look. Both your skin and hair can be massively affected by diet. Eat healthy foods, enjoy a diet filled with fruit, veg, water and vitamins, and your skin and hair will glow. Eat fatty, greasy foods, and you’ll have oily hair and spots.
If you use a hairdryer, straighteners or other heated products, you are damaging your hair. You are basically cooking it, causing it to dry out and become dull. To keep it shiny, make sure to use a heat protection product, and always use the lowest temperature possible.
Use a Hair Mask
Until the last couple years, I had never hear of a hair mask. It’s like a leave in conditioner but so much more. Apply it as directed which usually includes leaving it in for 10-30 minutes depending on the product. I used to have severe breakage and split ends but using a hair mask has helped tremendously.
