One of the most important things that we all need for our health is sleep. Not just sleep, but healthy, long amounts of sleep that will make us feel healthier, rested and more. More precisely you need 8 hours sleep. (Or maybe more) Many people are not familiar with how much a good night of sleep can make a difference to them until they experience it over and over again. The research says that we need eight hours of sleep per night, but have you ever considered why eight?
There is research to show that eight hours of sleep is important for your physical and mental health and wellbeing. Without enough sleep, you’re going to deal with health problems including obesity and high blood pressure. If you’re not getting enough sleep, your mind will not work the way that you want it to and you will find that you struggle to get through your day to day life. Trust me, basic words like “car” or “toast” will allude your everyday speech. (Yep, that’s happened to me before with too little sleep to recharge my brain.)
- You will be able to manage your hunger. If you sleep less than you should, you’re going to experience a lot of health issues that you could otherwise avoid. You can feel in need of an energy boost more often when you don’t sleep and you will end up eating more as a result. When you sleep, you don’t need these constant energy boosts and therefore can avoid issues with weight gain.
- Sustaining your immune system. When you sleep properly and often, you will release compounds called cytokines. This will protect your immune system and if you are sleeping enough especially, this will help. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you will find it harder to fight infections and you will be more likely to suffer from flu or the common cold.
- Improving your memory is important for your day to day function. Sleep can affect the learning and memory of your brain in two different ways. First, if you can’t sleep you can’t efficiently learn. Second, if you do sleep enough, you’re going to be able to remember things more!
To be able to sleep well, you have to cultivate habits that enhance your sleep environment. You need 8 hours of sleep right? You can avoid stimulants and program the timing of your sleep, too. Daily workouts and being more active throughout the day will help you to sleep better at night, too, as exercise can ensure that your sleep is more restful. Making an effort to go to bed and seek out natural treatment for insomnia when you can’t sleep will also help. You can get rid of the cigarettes and alcohol and look at what’s going on in your day to day life to see what’s interrupting your ability to sleep and stay there.
Lastly, you really need a comfortable place to sleep because you need 8 hours sleep. This can include the right count sheets and number of pillows. Plus, the mattress must be a good fit for your body. There is a reason that beds are designed to be so comfortable; it’s all about you and feeling warm, cozy and safe. When you feel all of these things, you can sleep safely and happily with no more interruptions!
