Well, it’s March I haven’t quite stuck to my original year 2020 plan. You either? It can be tough getting into a new routine to try and focus more on your health. The motivation you had on the 1st of January when you made those amazing resolutions might not be the same now. Don’t panic – lots of other people are in the same position! There is a way you can fix this. Check out these tips to restart you new years resolutions below…
Find an Exercise Routine that Suits You
This is one of the tips to restart you new years resolutions that some people overlook. We get the mindset that we have to do a certain type of exercise at a certain place or time. I’ve mentioned this in other articles but an exercise routine one year might not be what will motivate you the next. I used to love going to a local YMCA when I lived in another state. Now it is more of a hassle because of the drive over, so I exercise at an indoor climbing gym. Plus, that’s something I’m into right now. A highly regimented exercise routine may not suit a working mother or a mother in the first place who needs to care for kids. It may not take into account personal conditions or situations which do not affect the person recommending the specific routine. Try new things, experiment. See what works for you. See what others in your position are doing, and maybe follow them as they will be the closest to you. Plus, having an accountability might be what you need. It is ok to have a period of trying and failing before you find the exact routine that works for you. And it’s ok to mix it up if you get bored or circumstances change.
Adjust Your Diet
Another key element to health and wellbeing is your diet. I know this, you know this, the whole world knows this! But it can just be so hard without planning ahead and making it a priority. With some people, a regimented diet with a premade meal plan and nutritional values is the best way to adjust your diet quickly. Companies like Working Against Gravity can help do that for you with courses on how to get your diet in check. This is not the only way you can change how you eat, maybe you just want to remove the unhealthy snacks from your life and food on the go. Studies have shown that regimented times of eating, having the three main meals of the day at the same time every day helps with weight loss. Combine that with removing the unhealthy fast food and snacks in between, and replacing them with nuts, fruit, and salad, will make you into a health and diet ninja! PS You can still have fast food these days with the healthy salads alternatives that places are now offering (I heart the southwest salad at McD’s and the grilled market salad at Chil Fil A. YUM!)
Keep your Mental Wellbeing in Check
Mental Health also affects physical health, so the mind cannot be ignored. It is shown to be effective that if you practice mindfulness techniques at the same time as physical exercise the results are faster and more noticeable. If you have a calm mind, your body will follow, but if you have a clouded and stressed mind, then also the body will follow suit. The body takes its commands from the control center in your head – the brain. Without regular maintenance and making sure the brain is a-ok, then the body will suffer the consequences. Check out this Mayo Clinic article about how chronic stress can cause health risks. (yikes!) With this in mind, do not forget your mental health when you get to fixing up your physical health routines.
Last, but by no means least, make sure you enjoy yourself while getting healthy. This is one of the best tips to restart you new years resolutions. If you are hating what you are doing right this second, you will most likely not do it again. The same goes with health. Dragging a truck tire with your waist for five miles is not going to float everyone’s boat, but some people love it! Water aerobics also isn’t for everyone!
So, find what you love. If it is working for you, then continue and make 2020 the year you stick to those healthy resolutions.
