During times of upheaval or stress, we can tend to neglect our basic needs when it comes to health. We get so focused on dealing with the outside forces in our lives that we forget to focus on the things we can control: the different aspects of our health. Here are some ways that you can focus on your health even when things seem chaotic in every other area of your life.
Mental and Emotional
Usually, the first thing we cut in times of stress is our mental and emotional health measures. This is such a bad idea because how we feel mentally and emotionally determines how well we will be able to deal with problems or stress in our lives.
Making time for your mental and emotional health will not only help you feel better overall, but it will also act as an investment towards your future productivity and capableness. There are many ways you can give yourself a boost in this area. What you choose to do will depend on what suits you best.
Finding ways to deal with and cope with your emotions is essential. Using meditation or prayer can really help. It can also help to find a hobby that helps you release stress. Writing down your feelings and concerns or talking about them with a trusted friend is also a great way to care for your emotional well-being. When journaling it’s a great idea not only to write down your feelings but also what you were thinking about or the situation or activities you were doing while having these emotions. This can help you find patterns that will help you determine what might be triggers for negative and positive emotions.
It is also important to take care of yourself physically. Making sure you are drinking enough water, eating healthy foods, and getting enough sleep are all vital parts of feeling your best so you can tackle the hard things in your life. You may also want to look into taking extra vitamins or other supplements at Harvest to help give you some extra help.
Finding time to exercise can seem impossible, but taking that time out of your day will really boost your energy levels and will allow you to get more done. You can even start small by going on a short walk during a lunch break or doing a few things to get your heart rate up before you hop in the shower in the morning. Wherever you are, it is important to start at an appropriate level and build up so you can stay healthy and not hurt yourself.
Also make sure you are making your social health a priority. We are social beings, and it is important that we don’t neglect the people closest to us and the relationships we have developed. Everyone will have different social needs, but no one is without them completely.
Take time to spend with those who mean the most to you. Continue to develop those relationships. Spending time connecting to another person on a closer level will help you to see the value in yourself and those around you. It will also help you to be able to open up to others, seek advice and help when needed, and spend time helping others as well.
These are just a couple things you can do for prioritizing your mental and physical health especially during stressful times. Don’t give up! Give yourself grace and take it one day at a time.
